Mobile Electrical & Engine Diagnostics and Repair for Semi Trucks
Intermittent faults and electrical gremlins are some of the hardest problems to pin down, and some of the most expensive to guess at. Basta Motors brings the diagnostics to your truck, 24/7, follows the evidence to the cause and fixes it.
One chafed wire or corroded connector can set codes in several systems, cut power or leave the truck dead in the yard. We come to your yard, lot or the roadside.
Symptoms and problems we cover
- Intermittent fault codes that come and go
- No-crank, crank-no-start and slow cranking: batteries, charging, starter circuits, cables and grounds
- Batteries that keep going dead, and low or high voltage warnings
- Wiring, connector and sensor problems: chafing, corrosion, loose pins
- Module and datalink communication problems: J1939 / CAN codes, modules that stop talking, or a scan tool that can’t connect
- Loss of power and engine performance complaints
- Warning lights with no obvious cause, or gauges acting up
How we track it down
We start with the whole story: symptoms, fault history and the conditions when the problem shows up. Then we use live data and professional diagnostic software to decide what to test. Testing comes before replacing parts, so you’re not paying for a parts list built on codes alone.
- Call or text. Location, symptoms and fault codes. Arrival time, diagnostic scope and travel charge are confirmed before dispatch.
- Read the truck. We pull codes from the modules, check when and how often each fault set, and watch live data.
- Test before replacing parts. We test the circuits and components involved, so you’re not paying for a parts list built on codes alone.
- Repair. We fix the wiring, connector or ground, or replace the failed part, on site whenever parts and access allow. Bigger jobs go to a trusted partner.
Why one bad wire can set codes everywhere
The engine, transmission, ABS and other modules share data over the J1939 network: a twisted pair of CAN wires with a terminating resistor at each end. A damaged backbone, a failed resistor or one bad module can set communication codes across several systems, so the module reporting the code isn’t always the one at fault. That’s why testing comes before replacing parts.
What to have ready when you call or text
- Exact location: yard or business name and cross streets, or freeway, direction and nearest exit
- Unit number, and year / make / engine or VIN
- What it’s doing: won’t crank, cranks but won’t start, dies, loses power, lights flicker
- When it happens: cold or hot, over bumps, after rain, under load
- Active fault codes and dash messages (a photo of the dash screen works)
- Recent work: new batteries, replaced parts, added accessories
- For fleets: the driver’s phone number and the billing contact
FAQ
Can you find a problem that comes and goes?
Often, yes. Fault history, the conditions when a code set and circuit testing can narrow it down even when the problem isn’t happening. If a fault only shows up under specific conditions, we’ll tell you straight what we found and what it would take to catch it.
My truck won’t start in the yard. Can you come out?
Yes, 24/7. No-starts in the yard usually come down to batteries, charging, starter circuits or wiring. Send the location and tell us whether it cranks at all.
A module stopped communicating after a repair. Why?
Often it’s wiring: a connector not fully seated, a damaged harness, or the module’s power or ground. Sometimes a replacement module also needs programming or setup before it works with the rest of the truck.
Do you replace parts based on the code?
No. A code points to a circuit or a system, not a part. We test first, so you’re not paying for parts the truck didn’t need.
